Education and Work Experience

I graduated in 1986 from Swarthmore College with Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a course concentration in minority and women studies.  I have taken graduate level classes in accounting, financial management, project management, business law and change management.  My work in education has required additional courses in curriculum and instruction, human development, education theory and social/community resources.
Following college, I designed and trained corporate-wide diversity training programs for companies such as Times Mirror Corporation, Advanced Micro Design, The Art Institute in Chicago, WGNTV, Hewlett Packard, Apple, and Tribune Company.  I also facilitated Strategic Planning and Team Building programs for clients ranging from Visalia Unified School District to Planned Parenthood to the Wall Street Journal.  As part of my work with clients I conducted organizational assessments, involving sample sizes as large as 5000, to gather measurable data on business systems efficacy and corporate climate.  I also presented keynotes at large professional conferences.
When my stay-at-home spouse returned to the workforce in 2001, I traded in my frequent flyers for finger paint by taking a job as a preschool teacher.  I have remained with Early Childhood Education and currently work as an Area Manager in the school age extended learning division of a large international education company. Over the past 10 years I have received our company’s awards for Quality, People Development, Financial Management and Area Manager of the Year.
My community volunteer work has focused on children as well.  I served for 8 years as a coordinator for the African American parent involvement program at the school district where my children attended.  I am honored to have received the Oak Grove School District’s Vision Award for Innovative Spirit as well as the Harriet Tubman Award for taking “extraordinary risk to advocate for African American children”.
